Bhutan became a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisations (UNESCO) on 13th April 1982. Bhutan National Commission for UNESCO (Bhutan Natcom) was formed on 1st October 1986 under the command of His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The permanent Secretariat, Bhutan Natcom is attached to the Ministry of Education.
Education Minister His Excellency Lyonpo Jai Bir Rai is the Chair of Bhutan NatCom
Education Secretary Dasho Karma Yeshey is the Secretary-General of Bhutan NatCom.
The secretariat of Bhutan Natcom consists of the following staff;
